If you don't like chatting on the forum board and prefer to use an IM platform, PMD: Tales of Celestia provides several different ways for you to chat with other members in real time! In most cases, you don't even need to be registered on the board, allowing you to see if our community is right for you.
Matrix
The primary and recommended way to chat with others is by joining our Matrix Space. If you don't know what Matrix is, you can read more about it here.
Our Matrix Space is hosted at matrix.org, and bridged with our Discord server using t2bot.io.
You can join our Matrix Space here.
You will need to create an account on any Matrix homeserver to access our Matrix Space. Use of this service is subject to matrix.org's privacy policy, terms and conditions, and code of conduct.
Note that this Space is temporary, and we will eventually move to a self-hosted homeserver in the future. This will result in a more stable Discord bridge, custom emojis, etc.
Discord
If you primarily use Discord as your IM platform of choice, you may be more comfortable with joining our Discord server. While it does have additional functionality, such as the Tupperbox and Poketwo bots, Discord is generally considered to be a worse platform compared to Matrix for a variety of different reasons.
Our Discord server is bridged with our Matrix Space using t2bot.io.
It is recommended that you use our Matrix Space instead, but if you would like to join our Discord server, you can join it here.
You will need to create a Discord account to access our Discord server. Use of this service is subject to Discord's privacy policy, terms of service, and community guidelines.
mChat
Registered users on the board have access to mChat, a built-in chatroom, on the board's index page and the mChat page. Unlike the other chatrooms, it isn't bridged due to technical limitations - mChat is its own single chatroom for general discussion.
In addition to allowing live chat with others without needing an additional account, mChat provides a live feed of new topics to allow registered users to more easily follow the roleplay.
Various settings, such as toggling the notification sound, whether to display it on the index page, and whether to show the new post feed, can be configured in the UCP under the mChat tab.

Staff rooms
Our staff team have their own set of chatrooms. On Matrix, they are not visible in the Space and are instead invite-only.

Event rooms
Some rooms are only available during specific community events. While some of them reopen every so often, others were only available once. When these rooms are not used, they are temporarily delisted from the Matrix Space and moved to the Discord server's Archive category, and in both cases users will not be able to type in them. Users can still freely browse the message history as they please.
